About

Hi, I’m Lee. Ever since owning my first guitar, I’ve been taking instruments apart, fixing them, modifying them and learning about what makes them work.

Experience

I’ve been repairing equipment full time for over 5 years now. Before this, it was always something I did on the side and as a hobby. I have over 20 years experience playing and creating music, as well as extensive experience as a live sound engineer. I’ve organised festivals, promoted gigs, managed stages and spent a few years working as part of a nation-wide production crew. More recently, I’ve built myself some custom tube amplifiers and effects units here at the workshop.

Workshop Ethos

It’s a one-man operation here at PMR. I aim to be approachable and friendly to anyone looking to get a piece of musical equipment repaired, restored or serviced. I run a LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent-friendly space here in my workshop – everyone is welcome and there’s no repair job too small. If you treat me with kindness and respect, that’s what you’ll get in return!

PMR is registered with Safe Space Alliance. Find out more about what that means here: https://safespacealliance.com/

Autism and Running a Business

Towards the end of 2022, I was diagnosed as Autistic. I sometimes struggle making small talk, maintaining eye-contact and have quite strong aversions to certain sensory stimuli. In terms of running a business and dealing with clients, I try my best to be inviting and friendly, but sometimes this can be hard. I work much better with written communication and having clear instructions – my default way of communicating with clients is via email, as it’s the way that I find most comfortable. All I ask is for a little patience and understanding.

Previous Clients/Customers

I’ve had the pleasure of working on equipment for a vast range of people and businesses over the years. These include: Happy Mondays, New Order, Graham Massey/808 State, Mr. Scruff, Jane Weaver, Paolo Fuschi, RNCM, BIMM Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, St Ambrose College, Aquinas College, Futureworks, Band on the Wall, Blues Kitchen Manchester, Johnny Roadhouse, Marvel Guitars, Rigby Music, Big Fish Rentals, Neuron AV Rentals, Airtight Studios, NO Studio, Pinhole Sounds Studio, Low Four Studio, HQ Recording Studio, Hope Mill Recording Studios, Green Velvet Studio, Spirit Studios and many more.

Academic Qualifications

I hold a Masters degree in Audio Acoustics from the University of Salford and a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from Leeds University. I have a strong theoretical knowledge base which is invaluable for some of the projects I undertake.
